” I definitely see a lot of theft crimes. Most common is shoplifting. Common one is from Walmart or any kind of grocery store. As everybody knows, over the last several years, groceries stores have gone to the self-checkouts. It is very common for people to go through, and either accidentally or on purpose, depending on the person, scan multiple items and then have an item or two that they don’t scan. Usually, there’s not any issue with restitution because typically Walmart or whoever the store is gets those items back but it’s my job to negotiate a deal for the client, keep them out of jail, that’s always goal Number 1, and goal Number 2, keep them without any permanent record, which I’m frequently able to do on a theft case.”
